Your store can receive visitors while your team is offline. That makes after-hours product questions a sensible place to evaluate an AI sales assistant. It does not mean every store needs one, or that every unanswered message represents a lost sale. The useful question is whether the assistant can resolve enough relevant work, at the times it matters, to justify its cost and upkeep.
Look at what happens when your team is unavailable
Review customer enquiries by time and by task. A question about a bag’s dimensions at midnight is a potential product-guidance use case. A complaint about a specific order may require a team member with access and authority. Count those separately before estimating the benefit of additional coverage.
Also review where customers are located and when their visits overlap with your staffed hours. Do not assume that all traffic outside your local business day is equally valuable. Start with the periods where customers ask supported buying questions and currently wait for an answer.
Define coverage as a useful answer
An automatic greeting can acknowledge a message, but it may not resolve the question. Product-focused AI coverage means the customer can get a supported explanation, see a relevant option and reach the correct action without waiting for a person to repeat the catalog information.
Obsedia’s Ecommerce Agent uses approved store sources and public product data for this work. Availability still depends on the storefront, configuration and required services. The phrase “24/7” describes the intended coverage model; it should not be read as an uptime guarantee or a promise that every request can be resolved.
Estimate the work it can genuinely remove
Classify a sample of after-hours enquiries as answerable from approved information, needing a clarification, or requiring your team. Then test representative examples. Do not count a task as automated because the agent produced a reply; count it only when the reply and next action are correct.
Include follow-up effort. If an unclear answer creates another email, the work has moved rather than disappeared. Keep a route for questions beyond Ecommerce V1’s scope, including protected-order matters, and state when a person can respond.
Use a break-even calculation, not a revenue promise
Consider a purely hypothetical monthly cost of €100 for software and the time allocated to maintenance. If an additional completed order contributes €20 after variable costs, five genuinely incremental orders would cover that amount. These figures are an illustration, not Obsedia pricing or a forecast.
The same calculation can include support time, but avoid double-counting. If you already count saved staff time as a benefit, do not also claim the same hours as extra selling capacity unless that change actually happens. Use the current app quote and your own contribution figures for a decision.
Budget for source maintenance
An assistant that answered correctly last month may need updated information for a new collection or revised policy. Assign an owner to review recurring gaps and confirm important catalog changes. This work is part of the operating cost, not a reason to skip automation.
Test a missing detail, an unavailable variant and a request outside the approved sources. An honest limit can preserve trust. Invented answers may appear to increase resolution in a dashboard while leaving the customer with an incorrect expectation.
Run a focused after-hours pilot
Choose a collection with clear product information and several repeated buying questions. Establish the baseline, configure the agent and review complete conversations during the target hours. Check whether the customer reached the right product and whether the staff follow-up became easier.
Continue if the assistant handles useful work accurately and the cost makes sense for your store. Improve the sources if the same gaps recur. If most enquiries require private order access or discretionary decisions, strengthen that support process first rather than assuming a product-shopping agent can replace it.
Evaluate a 24/7 agent against the questions that arrive outside your coverage hours. Count correct outcomes and maintenance effort before estimating its value.
