A shopper can leave a cart because the product is wrong, the delivery cost is unexpected, payment fails or they are simply not ready. An AI agent can help with some of those reasons, especially unresolved product questions. It cannot make every abandoned cart recoverable. The practical starting point is to identify where uncertainty appears and which part of the experience you can actually change.

Find the point where the shopper gets stuck

Separate a customer who is still choosing a product from one who has started checkout. Someone comparing two sizes may need a measurement. Someone seeing an unexpected shipping cost needs accurate delivery information. Someone facing a declined payment has a different problem again.

Review your store funnel alongside actual questions and support messages. Avoid assigning every drop-off to the same cause. A useful first investigation might focus on a collection with frequent fit questions rather than the entire checkout. Document the suspected issue before adding another intervention.

Resolve product doubt while the visit is still active

Obsedia’s Ecommerce Agent can explain approved product information, compare relevant items and present a product card. This can help a shopper who placed an item in the cart but is not certain they selected the right one.

Imagine a customer asks whether a carry-on bag fits an airline’s requirements. The agent can provide documented bag dimensions. It should not guarantee acceptance by every airline or invent current carrier limits. A precise answer lets the shopper make the comparison instead of leaving with a false promise.

Make store policies easy to understand

Delivery and returns questions can affect the decision before checkout. If your approved store pages contain the relevant information, the agent can explain it in the conversation. Keep those pages consistent with the terms the shopper will see when buying.

A general dispatch estimate does not justify a guaranteed arrival date. A returns policy does not authorize a special exception. Test questions that include a deadline, a destination or an opened product so that you can see whether the answer preserves the conditions in the policy.

Check that the cart contains what the shopper chose

A recommendation is only useful if the next action carries the correct product and variant. Test a size change, an unavailable option and a second add action. Inspect the cart contents and quantity after each action.

Obsedia offers explicit Add to cart actions for eligible variants. The customer remains in control, and adding an item does not complete checkout. Keep the chat and the normal store cart consistent; do not use a reassuring message to conceal a failed cart operation.

Keep on-site assistance separate from recovery messaging

Once a visitor leaves, answering a product question in the storefront is no longer the same task as contacting them again. Shopify has its own abandoned-checkout recovery tools. Obsedia also has separate SMS and WhatsApp products with recovery workflows and their own setup and eligibility requirements.

The Ecommerce Agent does not automatically become an SMS or WhatsApp sender because it discussed a cart. Evaluate the message channel separately, including recipient eligibility and the event that starts the workflow. Do not describe a chat conversation as permission to send marketing messages.

Test one cause of abandonment at a time

Choose a specific hypothesis: for example, customers in a bag collection need a clearer size comparison before buying. Improve the source information, configure the answer and test the path to cart. Keep unrelated checkout and promotional changes recorded so you can interpret the result.

Follow completed purchases as well as cart actions, and review whether the underlying question has been resolved. If the problem is a broken payment method or an unexpectedly high shipping charge, fix that directly. The agent belongs where a better explanation can change the decision.

Use the agent to resolve a documented buying doubt during the visit. Treat checkout errors and post-visit recovery as separate problems with separate fixes.
